Regarding Damascus University’s Advancement to Rank 535 in the Round University Ranking

The Syrian Future Movement proudly and respectfully receives the news of Damascus University’s advancement by 416 ranks in the Round University Ranking for 2025, as reported by the official news agency “SANA” on June 1, 2025. The university reached the 535th position globally, up from 951 in 2024, which we see as a testament to the academic determination to elevate scientific standards despite all challenges.

The Syrian Future Movement sees this progress as the result of the university’s improved performance across more than 13 indicators, including scientific research, international collaboration, and research funding. Moreover, Damascus University’s inclusion in 19 global rankings, compared to only four at the end of 2023, reflects the growing global recognition of its academic stature.

The Syrian Future Movement stresses the need to continue efforts to consolidate this progress, calling for intensified governmental and societal support for scientific research, the enhancement of international partnerships with leading research centers, and the creation of an encouraging academic environment for students and researchers to ensure sustained success and achieve even higher global rankings.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that this achievement, though significant, is only a first step in the journey of scientific progress. The national goal must be to elevate Damascus University to rank among the world’s top 200 universities in the coming phase. This ambition can be achieved through integrated efforts based on standards of excellence and continuous development.

The Syrian Future Movement salutes all those working at Damascus University and values their efforts in achieving this progress, affirming that success is not a destination but an ongoing journey towards global recognition. There must be work to provide the resources and capabilities necessary to ensure Syrian universities reach the top tiers in global academic rankings.

The Syrian Future Movement, recognizing the importance of Damascus University, had previously recommended in 2023 during the era of the former regime—through an article published on our official website titled “Damascus University: A Great History and a Painful Reality”—to place the university’s file in the custody of the Arab League or the United Nations. This was due to the historical significance of “Damascus University” and its role as the national bridge that unites all Syrians regardless of their political differences. Today, we affirm that this success would not have been possible without the downfall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
