The Syrian-Iraqi meeting in Doha

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the historic meeting in the Qatari capital, Doha, which brought together Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia’ al-Sudani, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, on Thursday, April 17, 2025. The Movement also appreciates its strategic content that enhances the paths of joint cooperation and strengthens the pillars of security and stability in the region.

The Syrian Future Movement believes the significance of this meeting stems from the fact that it comes at a highly sensitive time, where Syria and Iraq are facing intertwined challenges that affect their national security and sovereignty. Both sides affirmed that the security of the two countries is the cornerstone for the stability of the entire region, a statement that reflects a sharp vision of the needs of the current phase, where the joint war against terrorism and organized crime, and the strengthening of intelligence and field coordination, are priorities that cannot be delayed.

The Syrian Future Movement considers the commitment of both sides to respect the principles of national sovereignty and reject foreign interventions to be in line with the Movement’s vision, which advocates resolving crises through constructive national and regional dialogue, free from external dominations. Furthermore, the agreement to activate bilateral cooperation in areas of border security and economic exchange is a bold step toward restoring the joint Arab role and building bridges of trust between brotherly countries.

The Syrian Future Movement views this meeting as a diplomatic achievement added to the path of Arab cooperation and appreciates the Qatari role in sponsoring this dialogue, reaffirming that Doha remains a platform for balanced political and regional solutions. Moreover, the activation of Syrian-Iraqi partnership will have a positive impact on the humanitarian and economic conditions of both peoples and will support efforts for reconstruction and facing shared challenges.

The Syrian Future Movement stresses that such steps are the real guarantor for building an integrated Arab regional system capable of confronting threats in all their forms. We also renew the call to expand this model of coordination to a broader Arab level, as a foundation for a new era of stability and prosperity for the peoples of the region.
