The Meeting Between the President of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Prime Minister of Lebanon

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the meeting held between the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Ahmad Al-Shaar, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mr. Asaad Al-Shibani, with the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Mr. Nawaf Salam, and his accompanying delegation at the People’s Palace in the capital, Damascus, on April 14, 2025. We see this meeting as a reflection of the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and as a positive step toward addressing common issues and enhancing regional cooperation.

The Syrian Future Movement considers the agreement to form committees to follow up on outstanding files — including the issues of the missing and the detainees — as a sign of both sides’ commitment to resolving humanitarian concerns with a spirit of responsibility and cooperation. Likewise, discussions on signing new investment agreements and increasing flight connections between Beirut and Damascus represent practical steps toward enhancing economic integration and communication between the two peoples.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for the continuation of this constructive approach in strengthening Syrian-Lebanese relations in a way that serves the interests of both countries and contributes to achieving stability and development in the region. We also emphasize the importance of transparently and jointly following up on the implementation of these agreements.

The Syrian Future Movement stresses the importance and urgency of addressing the file of Syrian revolution detainees in Lebanese prisons and calls for expediting procedures to return them to Syria, honoring them in their homeland, and providing compensation for their suffering.
