Regarding the statement issued by the Syrian presidency about establishing a national fact-finding committee in the coast

The Syrian Future Movement sees this step as a significant and positive shift that requires tangible measures to ensure the achievement of justice and real accountability through guarantees that uphold absolute transparency.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the formation of a committee to investigate the events in the Syrian coast depends on the credibility of the committee’s independence and the determination to hold those involved in violations accountable without exception.

The Syrian Future Movement sees the necessity of involving independent human rights organizations to ensure true justice, including independent observers from local and international human rights organizations, which would enhance the trust of the Syrian people and the international community in the seriousness of the investigations.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the need for real, not just formal, accountability, as highlighted in a paper from the political office of the Syrian Future Movement, published concurrently with the presidential decree on our official website, titled: “The Implications of What Is Happening in the Coastal Areas on the State-Building Project.”

The Syrian Future Movement believes that linking the investigation of this committee to a comprehensive national project should be part of a broader vision for serious and sustainable national reconciliation, ensuring the rule of law and freedoms, and opening the door for real political transformation that ends decades of tyranny and oppression.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the success and legitimacy of this committee depend on its seriousness and independence, and therefore its ability to establish a new precedent in Syria’s history based on justice and real accountability. This will contribute to achieving transitional justice, strengthening the Syrian fabric, and rejecting sectarianism, which, if ignited, would threaten to burn Syria, both as a state and as a people, leading to the division of the homeland, something we do not wish.
