The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the joint statement by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, along with Commissioners Dubravka Šuica and Hadja Lahbib, and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani, following the ninth Brussels Conference, held last Monday under the title “Standing with Syria: Meeting the Needs for a Successful Transition.” The statement was published by Syrian Television today, Wednesday, 2025/03/19.
The Syrian Future Movement expresses its appreciation for international efforts aimed at supporting the Syrian people during this critical period in the country’s history.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that political transition is the foundation for achieving peace and stability in Syria and the only path to building a modern state based on democracy, equal citizenship, and respect for human rights. In this context, we value the European Union’s commitment to supporting this process and emphasize the importance of ensuring that these efforts are inclusive and sustainable, guaranteeing the participation of all components of the Syrian people without exclusion or discrimination.
The Syrian Future Movement acknowledges that achieving these goals requires additional and necessary steps, foremost among them being the complete lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Syria. These sanctions have had a direct impact on the lives of Syrian citizens, exacerbating their daily suffering. Lifting them would contribute to improving living conditions, paving the way for reconstruction and economic development, and enhancing the chances of a successful political transition.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the international community to provide the necessary support for rebuilding destroyed infrastructure, delivering urgent humanitarian aid to displaced persons and refugees, and ensuring their safe return home. Reconstruction is not merely a technical process; it is an integral part of achieving national reconciliation and restoring Syria’s social fabric.
The Syrian Future Movement stresses the importance of ensuring that the reconstruction process is transparent and fair, prioritizing the needs of the Syrian people above all else. We also call for the establishment of international oversight mechanisms to ensure that aid is used effectively and in line with declared objectives.
The Syrian Future Movement reaffirms its commitment to working with all national and international parties to achieve the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity, and justice. We emphasize that this stage requires everyone to act with responsibility and cooperation, setting aside narrow interests and political disputes.
The Syrian Future Movement extends its appreciation to all international efforts supporting Syria and its people and calls for these efforts to continue until comprehensive and lasting peace is achieved.
