The Syrian Future Movement is closely following the reports regarding the arrest of Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, the former regime’s mufti, at Damascus International Airport while attempting to leave the country. We view this event as a significant step toward achieving justice and holding accountable all those who were involved in supporting the former regime and justifying its crimes against the Syrian people.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun played a prominent role in promoting the policies of the former regime, using his religious position to justify bloody security repression, which led to the killing and displacement of the Syrian people. His distortion of Quranic verses to serve the interests of the defunct regime constitutes a blatant violation of religious and ethical values and reflects the extent to which religion has been exploited for narrow political gains.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that holding Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun and all those involved in the crimes of the former regime accountable is a necessary step toward achieving transitional justice and ensuring that no one escapes punishment for the crimes committed against the Syrian people. We also emphasize that this accountability must be carried out in accordance with national and international laws, ensuring respect for human rights and the rule of law.
The Syrian Future Movement calls for strengthening national and international efforts to pursue all those responsible for the crimes committed by the former regime and to work toward building a state based on justice, equality, and the rule of law. Achieving justice is not merely a popular demand but a foundation for building Syria’s new future, which the Syrian people aspire to.
The Syrian Future Movement reaffirms its commitment to working toward justice, freedom, and dignity for the Syrian people and stresses that holding those responsible for crimes accountable is a fundamental step toward achieving national reconciliation and building a modern and stable state.
