Russian delegation’s visit to Damascus

The Syrian Future Movement closely followed the visit of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, Mikhail Bogdanov, to the Syrian capital, leading a high-level delegation from the Russian Foreign Ministry, which included the Russian President’s Special Envoy for Syrian Settlement Affairs, Alexander Lavrentiev, on the morning of Tuesday, 2025/01/28.

The Syrian Future Movement views with optimism Bogdanov’s statements that the discussions with the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, were “constructive and positive.”

The Syrian Future Movement perceives relations with Russia through the lens of supporting a zero-problems policy with all countries, striving to improve interrelations, preventing wars in our country and its surroundings, and avoiding any negative military intervention.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the consequences of Russia’s past support for Bashar al-Assad can be resolved through dialogue and prioritizing mutual interests.

The Syrian Future Movement supports any movement that strengthens Syria’s stability and avoids hostility toward any country, especially a major power like Russia.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that Syria can play a future role in promoting and establishing a culture of stability and ending wars, given the experience Syrians have endured.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for diligent efforts to build an independent and just Syrian judiciary, which would then enable work toward convincing Russia to hand over Bashar al-Assad and his family for a fair and historic trial. We urge all Syrian forces to consider this objective a top priority.
