In a rare move against a renowned international media outlet, the Assad regime announced yesterday, Saturday, the revocation of the BBC’s accreditation, describing its reports as “misleading.”
In response, the BBC issued a statement emphasizing that it “provides independent and impartial journalism to its audience across the Arab world.”
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this unjust decision against BBC News Arabic came after it published an investigation last month revealing links between Captagon dealers and prominent leaders in the Assad regime and family.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the Assad regime, which has adopted a policy of silencing voices since assuming power in Syria and has confronted the press and media with repression and restrictions, is continuing these steps, unconcerned with the obfuscation of facts and distortion of the truth.
The Syrian Future Movement: Renews the spotlight on the suffering of media professionals and journalists as a result of exposing the regime’s violations against the Syrian people demanding freedom. This has resulted (according to human rights networks) in the killing of more than 580 journalists (including foreigners) since 2011, in addition to the torture and detention of thousands.
The Syrian Future Movement: Calls on the international community to stand with the Syrian people to achieve a safe and stable Syria that guarantees human dignity and freedom, beginning with the spoken word and ending with media channels and their multiple windows onto the free world at all times and places.
