On the delivery of Syrian chemical weapons

Syrian Future Movement…
Since the early days of the Syrian revolution, the regime and its allies have managed to exploit the element of time to their advantage through successive initiatives. The regime accompanied these initiatives with ongoing criminal acts of killing, destruction, and displacement. The Arabic saying applies to them and to us: “Time is like a sword; if you do not cut it, it will cut you.” This led us to the Russian-American agreement on today’s date, 2013-09-14, which includes the beginning of the Syrian regime’s handover of chemical weapons until mid-2014, the time when Syria’s presidential elections were due.

Syrian Future Movement…
Thanks to God, we were among the first to call attention to the regime’s crimes. Even when some pillars of the international community began talking about the possibility of a punitive strike against the regime, we called on the world to focus on the crime of killing itself, without regard to the tool used. The fatalities caused by the regime’s aircraft, the knives of the shabiha, and houses destroyed over their residents are crimes equivalent to killing with chemical weapons.

Syrian Future Movement…
While we stand by this international agreement and what ministers Lavrov and Kerry achieved regarding the handover of all chemical weapons in the possession of the Syrian regime, we thus disagree with General Salim Idris, the Chief of Staff of the Free Syrian Army, who announced his rejection of this agreement and its implications today from Istanbul.

Syrian Future Movement…
With our prior knowledge that the regime is trying to buy time and play all available cards at hand, we see that if this agreement is achieved sooner or later, it would be positive and beneficial for the future of Syria. We aspire to be a peaceful, secure, and neighborly nation, and that can only be achieved by dismantling weapons of mass destruction and joining the international treaties related to this matter.
