The Syrian regime, its oppressive forces (Shabiha), and its regular army would not have been able to take control of the city of Talkalakh and other villages in Homs’ countryside without the intervention of Hezbollah’s Lebanese militias, which supported the regime’s military forces on one side, and the lack of unity among the Free Syrian Army factions, failing to act as one.

Hezbollah has benefited from its understanding of the Free Syrian Army’s tactics and maneuvers. Therefore, it is replicating the “scorched earth” scenario in the Homs countryside to gain ground, linking cities together—connecting Talkalakh to Al-Qusayr through Wadi Khaled—and thereby securing a geographic area that aids the regime’s army in establishing camps as a preliminary phase, linked to Hezbollah’s supply line in Lebanon.
