Statement from the residents of Jaramana and the security developments

The Syrian Future Movement is closely following the rapidly unfolding events in the city of Jaramana in the Damascus countryside, beginning with the national statement issued by the city’s sheikhs and dignitaries on Thursday, August 6, 2026, continuing with the terrorist bombing that targeted a civilian bus that same evening, and culminating in the security and medical mobilization that followed the incident.

While the Syrian Future Movement highly commends the honorable stance of the people of Jaramana, who affirmed that “Damascus is their primary destination and Ghouta their natural home,” and their categorical rejection of any foreign intervention or attempts to sow discord, it views the suspicious timing of the terrorist bombing, which occurred just hours after the statement, as a clear message from parties seeking to undermine this unique model of civil peace and coexistence.

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the statement issued by the sheikhs, dignitaries, and residents of Jaramana, signed by 85 prominent figures from the city. This statement highlights six key points:

  1. Affirmation of a unified national identity: The signatories emphasized that “Damascus is the primary destination, and the Ghouta is its natural hinterland,” in a clear message that Jaramana’s allegiance is to a unified Syria, not to any external or sectarian project.
  2. Rejection of foreign interference in all its forms: They affirmed that “the unity of Syria, both its land and its people, must remain a point of consensus among Syrians,” thus thwarting any attempts to exploit local diversity to serve foreign agendas.
  3. Affirmation that Jaramana is “a model of civil peace and coexistence”: This is an acknowledgment of a reality that reflects a rare level of social maturity in the region, deserving of protection and support.
  4. Withdrawal of social support from those inciting sedition: They declared that they “are not a mailbox for any entity,” and that they are best positioned to understand their own interests and the affairs of their city—a firm stance that exposes attempts to exploit the city.
  5. The statement called on authorities to prosecute those inciting hatred, emphasizing the importance of government institutions fulfilling their role in enforcing the law and protecting security and stability.
  6. It also stressed the principle of equal citizenship, asserting that “all residents of the city are considered its children, enjoying the same rights and bound by the same obligations.”

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the terrorist bombing that targeted a civilian bus in Jaramana on Thursday evening, injuring 14 people, including women and children, and the subsequent defused explosive device in Qudsaya, did not occur in a vacuum. Rather, it was:

  1. An attempt to validate the warnings issued by residents who had alerted the public to “signs of anxiety and unrest” and “rumors and attempts to incite tension,” thus confirming the validity of these warnings.
  2. A blatant challenge to the will of the people of Jaramana, who had declared their rejection of sectarian strife. The bombing was intended to test their resilience and unity.
  3. In an attempt to undermine the model of civil peace represented by Jaramana, and to send a message that this model is under threat, the Syrian Future Movement seeks to sow fear and suspicion among the city’s various communities.

In this context, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates its consistent positions, published on its official website, which emphasize the priority of preserving civil peace and rejecting sedition:

  1. Statement on the “Position of the Sheikhs and Residents of Jaramana” (dated July 15, 2026): This statement commended the residents of Jaramana for their commitment to maintaining civil peace and affirmed that “national unity and social cohesion are the strongest weapons to confront attempts at division and sedition.”
  2. Statement on “The Importance of Popular Oversight in Protecting the National Transition” (dated July 11, 2025): This statement stressed that “civil peace is the cornerstone of any successful national transition.”

Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

  1. Strengthening community dialogue in Jaramana and similar cities by establishing local platforms for dialogue among the various communities.
  2. These platforms would serve as a permanent channel of communication with government institutions and would help resolve conflicts before they escalate. Activating the role of community leaders by empowering sheikhs and dignitaries in cities to play their part in containing tensions and providing them with the necessary support to fulfill this responsibility, following their prominent stance in Jaramana.
  3. Developing mechanisms to combat rumors by establishing units to monitor and analyze misinformation in the governorates, along with providing rapid channels to respond to and refute rumors, especially during times of crisis.
  4. Launching national campaigns to reject hate speech, targeting all governorates, in cooperation with state institutions and civil society organizations, to consolidate a culture of acceptance of others and respect for diversity.
  5. Enhancing transparency in security media and providing accurate and timely information about events to prevent the spread of rumors that fuel tension, as the Ministries of Interior and Health did in dealing with the aftermath of the bombing.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the honorable stance of the people of Jaramana and expresses its strong condemnation of the terrorist bombing that targeted their city, wishing a speedy recovery to all the wounded.

It is worth recalling that Jaramana is a rare Syrian model of coexistence that must be protected and supported, as it represents the future of Syria we aspire to: a Syria of equal citizenship, peaceful coexistence, and national unity that transcends all sub-national affiliations.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that these terrorist attempts, however brutal, will not succeed in breaking the will of the people of Jaramana or undermining their model of social cohesion.

For its part, the Syrian Future Movement will remain a supporter of all that strengthens civil peace, a critic of all that threatens national unity, and a monitor of all that is accomplished on the ground, striving for a new Syria where justice and love prevail, and where the security and stability of all citizens are preserved.
