International Play Day

On the occasion of International Play Day, celebrated globally on June 11, 2026, under the theme “Protect Play, Protect Childhood,” the Syrian Future Movement affirms the following national decisions and directions:

First: The new Syrian government has adopted a package of educational policies, linked to the 2026 budget, allocating independent budgets for the rehabilitation of recreational and sports spaces in public schools and parks. This aims to ensure children can exercise their natural right to play as a tool for learning and healthy psychological development.

Second: The Syrian Future Movement bases its position on reports issued by UNICEF and UNESCO for 2026, which indicate that more than 70% of Syrian children still suffer from the cumulative effects of psychological trauma resulting from years of war and displacement. This makes the integration of “supportive play activities” into curricula and community centers an absolute necessity for trauma treatment, not merely for recreation.

Third: The UN resolution issued in March 2024 stipulates that play is a fundamental right of the child, according to Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Therefore, we call for new Syrian legislation to align local laws with this perspective by prohibiting child labor and implementing strict oversight to ensure children’s return to school and safe play areas.

Fourth: In May 2026, the Ministry of Education, in coordination with local authorities, announced the launch of the “Interactive Summer Camps” plan. Its sports and recreational activities were scheduled to begin in the second week of June, aiming to harness the energies of young people and create positive interaction opportunities that support social cohesion. This is something we call for supporting, consolidating, and developing.

Fifth: We in the Syrian Future Movement affirm that “despite the notable 10% economic growth, we are still in the initial stages of rebuilding the infrastructure for childhood.” We emphasize that investing in the happiness of Syrian children and protecting their right to play and learn is the true investment in building a healthy Syrian society capable of leading the future.
