The Syrian Future Movement is following with grave concern the reports of delayed payments to “educational agents” in various education directorates. These delays have now extended for more than seven months (since September of last year), coinciding with the approach of Eid al-Fitr. According to a report published by Zaman al-Wasl on March 18, 2026, thousands of teachers are experiencing severe financial hardship, accumulating debt and forcing many to borrow to meet their needs for Ramadan and Eid amidst an unprecedented wave of inflation.
The Syrian Future Movement believes this crisis affects a vital segment of the educational workforce, who bear the responsibility of shaping future generations during this critical transitional period. Teachers are not merely employees; they are the cornerstone of social and psychological stability for millions of Syrian families. Such a prolonged delay in their payments threatens their livelihoods and negatively impacts their professional performance and the quality of education itself.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the urgent need for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance to intervene immediately to disburse the outstanding payments without further delay and without discrimination or selective application of the system. We also call for:
- A clear and transparent timetable for disbursing the remaining salaries, explaining the actual reasons for the delay and outlining a plan to prevent its recurrence.
- An urgent payment before Eid to alleviate the financial burden on families, especially since, according to reports, only 10% of those who have received a limited portion (only three months’ worth) have received their salaries.
- A review of salary disbursement mechanisms to ensure regularity and transparency, including activating direct bank transfers and strengthening coordination among the relevant ministries.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that reforming the education sector begins with protecting the dignity and stability of its employees. In this phase of national reconstruction, a genuine educational renaissance cannot be achieved without fulfilling the state’s obligations to its teachers.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the transitional government to respond swiftly to this humanitarian appeal and reiterates its commitment to supporting every effort that promotes social justice and transparency in the management of public resources, enabling the Syrian people to overcome this phase with dignity and hope.
