Statement by the Minister of Justice regarding the prosecution of figures from the ousted system

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the statement made by Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais on February 21, 2026, in which he affirmed the continued pursuit of the henchmen and figures of the ousted regime in accordance with established legal procedures. This ongoing legal process includes documenting crimes, building comprehensive files, issuing arrest warrants in absentia, and referring investigations to the Public Prosecutor and the Investigating Judge to complete the necessary procedures.

The Syrian Future Movement views this statement as an official confirmation of the transitional administration’s commitment to the principle of accountability and preventing impunity, while ensuring that the process is conducted within a structured judicial framework that safeguards the rights of victims and guarantees an independent and transparent judiciary.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that achieving transitional justice is a fundamental pillar for building a new Syrian state based on the rule of law, equal citizenship, and trust between citizens and state institutions, and that such steps contribute to strengthening social and political stability.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for accelerating and expanding these procedures to include all those involved in documented crimes, while ensuring full transparency in the files and procedures, and involving relevant documentation bodies and victims in supporting the judicial process. This will make accountability a tangible reality that restores rights and preserves dignity.

The Syrian Future Movement views this step as part of a broader national path toward genuine reconciliation based on justice, not revenge, where the law becomes an instrument of national unity, not division, and opens avenues for joint cooperation among all citizens in building a future based on rights, dignity, and lasting stability.

The Syrian Future Movement expresses its hope that these efforts will continue at a faster and more comprehensive pace to achieve effective transitional justice that includes everyone, contributes to closing the chapter on the painful past, and builds the Syria of the future that the Syrian people deserve.
