The Syrian Future Movement warmly welcomes and highly appreciates the decision issued by Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Muhammad Anjarani, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to reinstate 1,200 employees who were arbitrarily dismissed from their jobs under the former regime for their support of the Syrian revolution and their commitment to the values of freedom and dignity.
We view this as a significant and positive step towards rectifying the historical injustice inflicted upon thousands of Syrians and strengthening trust in the new institutions.
The Syrian Future Movement commends this measure, which reflects the Syrian transitional government’s commitment to the principles of transitional justice and administrative fairness. It affirms that the return of these dismissed employees is a national investment in the expertise that the country was deprived of for many years due to tyranny.
The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its consistent positions on this issue, as outlined in its official statements published on its website, sfuturem.org, including:
- A statement titled “The Ministry of Energy’s Call for Dismissed Employees to Complete the Procedures for Returning to Work,” issued on February 10, 2026, in which the Syrian Future Movement welcomed the Ministry of Energy’s call for dismissed employees to return to work. The Movement affirmed that “the return of dismissed employees is a fundamental right and a long-overdue act of justice that must encompass all ministries and public institutions without exception,” and called for the swift and transparent completion of the procedures.
- A previous statement titled “The Ministry of Energy’s Announcement of the Reinstatement of Arbitrarily Dismissed Employees,” issued on December 12, 2025, in which the Syrian Future Movement stressed that “administrative justice is not achieved merely by reinstating dismissed employees, but requires the enactment of a specific law to restore the rights of dismissed employees,” while emphasizing the necessity of a comprehensive process.
The Syrian Future Movement strongly supports the demand for the reinstatement of all those dismissed from other departments, ministries, and public institutions. It affirms that this right extends to all those arbitrarily dismissed for political or revolutionary reasons, whether in the Ministry of Education, Transportation, Health, Energy, or other ministries. This includes ensuring a transparent and swift review of their cases and the full restoration of their financial and employment rights without discrimination or delay.
The Syrian Future Movement proposes the following steps to strengthen this process and transform it into a comprehensive administrative reform:
- Forming an independent national high committee, comprising representatives from the government, civil society, and unions, to review all cases of arbitrary dismissal since 2011 and issue a comprehensive report specifying the numbers and entitlements of those affected.
- Issuing transitional legislation specifically addressing the “restoration of employment and financial rights” of those dismissed. This legislation should include compensation for past periods, reinstatement of promotions, and guarantees of fair retirement.
- Suspending all new appointments to government positions until the reinstatement of all eligible dismissed employees is complete, to ensure fairness and efficiency in the restructuring of the public administration.
- Developing a training and rehabilitation program for returning personnel, in partnership with international organizations, to enhance their capabilities and integrate them into building a modern, civil state based on competence and transparency.
- Linking this issue to comprehensive administrative reform efforts, to transform the public administration from an instrument of oppression into a genuine national service that serves the citizen and strengthens social stability.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the Syrian government to expedite these steps and affirms that redressing the grievances of those who were unjustly dismissed is a moral obligation and a national necessity for building a strong state based on competence, unified by justice, and forward-looking in its vision.
We emphasize that the new Syria will not be built except with the return of its wronged sons and daughters to their rightful role in serving the nation.
