The Syrian Future Movement follows the joint statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Turkey at the conclusion of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Riyadh on February 4, 2026, which included in-depth discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this statement, in which both sides affirmed their unwavering support for Syria’s security, stability, territorial integrity, and unity, represents a significant regional step reflecting a positive shift in regional diplomacy and supporting the path of transitional justice and reconstruction in post-authoritarian Syria.
We also consider the explicit condemnation of repeated Israeli violations of Syrian territory and the demand for Israel’s immediate withdrawal from all occupied Syrian territories—including the Golan Heights, occupied since 1967—to be a principled stance consistent with international law, such as Security Council Resolutions 242 (1967) and 497 (1981), and which reinforces Syria’s full sovereignty over its territory. Furthermore, according to reports from monitoring organizations such as the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), Israeli airstrikes on Syria exceeded 600 in 2025 alone, underscoring the urgent need to halt these violations, which target military and civilian sites and undermine regional stability.
The Syrian Future Movement views this statement within the context of a crucial transitional phase witnessing tangible progress in unifying Syrian institutions and restoring control over national territory, as exemplified by the Damascus Agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) signed on January 30, 2026, and the entry of Syrian Public Security forces into the city of Qamishli and other areas in the northeast.
We believe that the Saudi and Turkish praise for the efforts of the Syrian government and the international community, aimed at supporting Syria and lifting sanctions, as well as supporting the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and strengthening civil peace, reflects a deep understanding of the challenges facing Syria, including combating terrorist organizations and thwarting any attempts to destabilize the country. We emphasize that this regional support contributes to strengthening trust among Arab and regional states and opens avenues for economic and security cooperation that serves the interests of the people, especially in light of shared regional challenges such as the Palestinian issue, Yemen, and Sudan, where the Saudi-Turkish rapprochement can form the basis for broader joint initiatives.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this Saudi-Turkish rapprochement represents a strategic opportunity for Syria to bolster its regional standing, and this should be built upon through:
- Strengthening Syrian diplomacy and calling upon brotherly and friendly nations to increase economic and humanitarian support, including facilitating the lifting of the illegitimate international sanctions that have affected more than 23 million Syrians and led to the deterioration of the economy and a shortage of basic services such as healthcare and education, according to UN reports for 2025, while supporting comprehensive reconstruction programs for infrastructure and the national economy, estimated to cost between $250 and $400 billion.
- Preserving sovereignty and unity, and rejecting any foreign interference that threatens Syria’s unity, while focusing on resolving internal conflicts through a national dialogue that includes all components, to achieve genuine national reconciliation, and forming a joint national committee within the next three months to monitor the implementation of internal agreements.
- Expanded regional coordination, and the formation of joint mechanisms with neighboring and regional countries to combat terrorism, protect borders, and enhance regional stability, while adhering to international resolutions to restore occupied territories, and calling for an Arab-Turkish summit on Syria within the next six months to coordinate regional efforts in supporting reconstruction and reconciliation. The Syrian Future Movement sees this statement as the beginning of a new era of regional cooperation that supports building a strong and independent Syrian state, capable of contributing to the region’s security and stability.
We also believe that the Syria of the future, which we are working to build, will be a model of coexistence and sustainable development, benefiting from the support of its Arab brothers and regional friends to achieve prosperity and dignity for all its citizens, with a focus on reintegrating Syrians into the global economy and strengthening regional partnerships to confront the common challenges in the region.
