World Cancer Day

The Syrian Future Movement commemorates World Cancer Day on February 4, 2026. This day, organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) with the support of the World Health Organization, has been a global symbol of unity in the face of this insidious disease since its inception in 2000 in Paris through the Paris Charter Against Cancer.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that its 2025-2027 campaign is themed “United by Uniqueness,” a slogan that places the individual at the heart of healthcare. It acknowledges that every experience with cancer is unique – a story of pain, resilience, hope, and recovery – but that we are all united in one goal: to see the human being before the disease, and to reshape the future of healthcare to be centered on the needs of people and communities.

The Syrian Future Movement sees these values – compassion, empathy, recognition of unique personal experiences, and unity despite differences – as fundamental to our painful reality in Syria, where war has devastated the healthcare system, increased the spread of cancer due to exposure to pollutants, radiation, and chronic stress, and made access to appropriate treatments and early detection extremely difficult.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for raising awareness of the importance of prevention through a healthy lifestyle, promoting early detection, and ensuring equitable access to medical, psychological, and social treatments, with a focus on comprehensive care that considers the human needs of every Syrian patient.

The Syrian Future Movement is committed to building a new, healthy, and just Syria, where the health sector is rebuilt on modern foundations, support is provided to patients and families, and barriers to humane, person-centered care are removed.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all Syrians—individuals, organizations, and communities—to join this global movement, united in our uniqueness, sharing stories, raising our voices, and working together to alleviate suffering and build a future as free from cancer as possible.

Let us be one hand, united in our purpose, unique in our stories, for a stronger and healthier Syria.
