The governor of Aleppo banned the organization of any celebratory events.

The Syrian Future Movement declares its firm stance regarding the challenges facing Syria during this sensitive transitional phase, in light of recent events, particularly the military escalation and clashes witnessed in Aleppo in recent days (especially since the beginning of January 2026), which have led to widespread displacement from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods. We emphasize the necessity of supporting the legitimacy of the Syrian state throughout its national territory and reject any foreign interference that threatens its sovereignty or hinders efforts to establish security and stability.

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the decision issued by the Governor of Aleppo, Azzam al-Gharib, on January 11, 2026, prohibiting any celebratory events or gatherings related to the recent events in the Ashrafieh, Sheikh Maqsoud, and Bani Zeid neighborhoods. These events included the withdrawal of the armed forces affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from those areas. We believe that this decision, which aims to ensure public safety and enhance stability in the city, particularly given the noticeable improvement in the security situation, represents a positive step towards opening a new chapter in relations between the Syrian government and the SDF. This involves focusing on joint efforts to restore normalcy and calling on residents to pray for the recovery of the wounded, for mercy upon the martyrs, and for patience for their families, while adhering to the instructions of the relevant authorities.

The Syrian Future Movement sees this stage as a historic opportunity to build a modern, civil state based on comprehensive national dialogue as the foundation for reconciliation and reconstruction.

In this context, we reaffirm our full commitment to implementing the key national agreements reached during 2025, most notably:

  • The March 10, 2025 agreement between the Syrian Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which included eight key provisions aimed at strengthening cooperation and integrating military elements within a national framework.
  • The April 1, 2025 agreement between the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and the Syrian Interim Government, which recognized the two neighborhoods as administratively part of Aleppo, while respecting the social and cultural distinctiveness of their residents.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the Aleppo governor’s decision reinforces these agreements, opening avenues for deeper cooperation between the government and the SDF. It focuses on shared national interests, contributes to building bridges of trust to achieve lasting stability, and prevents hostile and hateful rhetoric.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for adopting diplomacy and rationality as the basis for resolving internal conflicts, while rejecting any military escalation that obstructs the peace process.

It emphasizes the need to confine weapons to the Syrian state and to reintegrate former elements within transparent national reconciliation programs based on the principles of transitional justice.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that building a new Syria requires a long-term strategic vision focused on unifying Syrians and strengthening social cohesion.

We call for launching a comprehensive national initiative to safely return displaced persons to their homes, providing them with the necessary economic and psychological support, especially in light of the recent large-scale displacement in Aleppo. We also emphasize the need to uncover the fate of the forcibly disappeared and to establish independent judicial mechanisms to hold those responsible for violations accountable.

The Syrian Future Movement is committed to strengthening a sustainable national economy by encouraging domestic investments and international partnerships within a legal framework that protects Syrian sovereignty, focusing on vital sectors such as agriculture, health, and education to ensure balanced growth that encompasses all regions.

In its vision for the future, the Syrian Future Movement envisions Syria as a unified and strong state where local governance is effective in meeting the needs of diverse communities, while preserving national unity as a supreme value.

We call for strengthening the role of youth and women in decision-making through training and educational programs, building a generation capable of leading reforms, with regional and international cooperation to address shared challenges such as poverty and climate change, provided that these partnerships are based on mutual respect and prioritizing Syrian interests.

The Syrian Future Movement, inspired by the Syrian people’s history of resilience and creativity, affirms its commitment to building a future that restores Syria’s civilizational and cultural standing in the region. We call upon all Syrians to rally around this vision, transcending past differences, to build a homeland that guarantees dignity, freedom, and security for all.
