Syrian-Egyptian Joint Economic Forum

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the convening of the joint Syrian-Egyptian Economic Forum, announced by the General Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce on January 8, 2026, and scheduled to be held in Damascus on January 11, 2026. This will be the first joint economic event of its kind following the radical political change in Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement views this forum as a significant culmination of efforts to normalize and develop Syrian-Egyptian relations. It builds upon the official visit of the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister to the Arab Republic of Egypt in December 2025, which paved the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation, particularly after the repeal of the Caesar Act, which had been a major obstacle to economic exchange for many years.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the generous support of His Excellency the Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Mr. Muhammad Nidal al-Shaar, and the participation of the high-level Egyptian delegation headed by Mr. Ahmed al-Wakil, President of the General Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce. The delegation includes 26 prominent business leaders representing vital sectors such as electricity, oil and gas, building materials, agriculture, and transportation and logistics. On the Syrian side, prominent government figures are participating, including the Ministers of Economy and Industry, Finance, Housing and Public Works, Energy, and Communications, along with representatives from the Syrian Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Syrian Investment Authority.

The Syrian Future Movement commends the organization of the forum, which includes five specialized working sessions focusing on the following strategic themes:

  • Building strategic partnerships in the field of reconstruction
  • Rehabilitating and developing the industrial sector
  • Development financing mechanisms
  • Transferring accumulated Egyptian expertise in the reconstruction of countries (such as Libya and Iraq)
  • Discussing the new Syrian Investment Law issued after the political changes of 2025

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of exploring future cooperation opportunities in the energy, transportation, and agriculture sectors, with the aim of establishing trilateral alliances (Syrian-Egyptian-European) through the Union of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce, and expanding the export of Syrian products to African markets through the Federation of African Chambers of Commerce.

The Syrian Future Movement considers this forum a crucial national step towards confronting the accumulated economic challenges, most notably: the severe energy shortage, the destruction of a large percentage of the infrastructure (exceeding 50% according to international reports in 2025), and the decline of industrial production to less than 30% of its previous capacity.

We see Egypt’s advanced expertise in the fields of establishing new cities and developing highways and logistics centers as a valuable strategic opportunity to revitalize the national economy.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the necessity of ensuring full transparency, implementing the principles of good governance, and the fair and equitable distribution of opportunities and benefits among all Syrian regions, in order to avoid any potential transitional risks.

The Syrian Future Movement views this event as an advanced model of regional cooperation that serves long-term economic stability and enhances Syria’s integration into the global economy while fully preserving national sovereignty and the interests of the Syrian people, within an economic vision based on innovation, sustainability, and social justice.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all official parties, the private sector, and civil society to seize this historic opportunity to build a comprehensive national economic vision that strengthens national unity and accelerates the pace of reforms during the transitional phase.

The Syrian Future Movement will continue its unwavering commitment to supporting all initiatives that serve the interests of the Syrian people, while closely and diligently monitoring the developments of this forum and ensuring the achievement of its desired national goals.
