Today, the world observes the International Day for Pandemic Preparedness, declared by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution of December 7, 2020, as a direct response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This day is also observed annually on December 27 to raise global awareness of the importance of pandemic preparedness through building robust health systems capable of prevention, early detection, and effective response to health threats, with a focus on international cooperation and investment in health infrastructure.
We in the Syrian Future Movement, founded in 2012 as a national, civil political entity stemming from the Syrian people’s revolution, see this day as an opportunity to link global efforts to Syria’s transitional circumstances. After years of conflict and destruction, Syria is now facing a critical transitional phase toward stability. Past conflicts have led to the deterioration of the health system, the spread of diseases, and a lack of preparedness for any potential pandemic threats. Nevertheless, we believe in a future vision focused on rebuilding Syria as a healthy and stable state, based on the principles of service decentralization and international cooperation.
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement calls for Syria’s integration into the international system through strengthening partnerships with the World Health Organization and the United Nations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the health sector. We envision Syria as a successful nation capable of confronting epidemics by investing in advanced health surveillance systems, developing vaccines, and training medical personnel, while drawing lessons from global pandemics. We believe this integration is essential to ensuring a secure future for the Syrian people, one based on technological innovation and regional and international cooperation to build a healthy society that contributes to global peace.
The Syrian Future Movement is committed to promoting this vision by fostering understanding and cooperation among all segments of the Syrian people and supporting national efforts for health and economic reconstruction. We urge all Syrian and international parties to join us in this endeavor to build a future Syria as a modern, stable, and integrated state within the international system.
