In the context of strengthening the Syrian national dialogue, the Syrian Future Movement met with a delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Damascus, as part of a series of meetings aimed at building broad national understandings.
The Kurdish National Council delegation included:
- Mr. Nimat Daoud, member of the Presidential Body of the Kurdish National Council
- Mr. Mahabad Tiziani, head of the Council’s Damascus office
- Mr. Luqman Oso, a leading member of the Council
The meeting included an in-depth and transparent discussion of current national issues, the role of political parties, movements, and civil entities in Syria’s transitional phase and future, and the necessity of unifying efforts to build Syrian state institutions on a comprehensive legal foundation that guarantees the unity of the land, the people, and their destiny.
The Future Movement also presented its vision on the issue of cooperative “service” decentralization, which it has been proposing for years. This vision was met with interest from the Kurdish delegation, who considered it a novel approach to addressing numerous challenges.
The Syrian Future Movement affirmed its full respect for Kurdish identity, stressing the need for this to be reflected in all aspects of the nascent new Syrian state, including reconsidering the name “Syrian Arab Republic” and proposing the adoption of “Syria” alone as the unifying national identity.
Both parties agreed to hold a broader meeting soon and to open direct channels with the parties of the Kurdish National Council to unify efforts on common issues and issue joint statements that will establish a shared framework in the future.
The Future Movement also proposed forming a joint political body that would unite Kurdish and Arab movements under a single national umbrella, creating a general framework based on shared national principles that would unify ranks and voices, while preserving the identity and platform of each party and movement.
This meeting comes within the context of the Syrian Future Movement’s efforts to strengthen national understanding and enshrine the principle of political partnership among the various Syrian components, serving the aspirations of the Syrian people to build a unified, democratic, and civil state.
