The Syrian Future Movement is closely following the rapid developments in the regional scene, particularly those related to the restructuring of relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Lebanese Republic. This follows the Syrian authorities’ announcement on October 10, 2025, of the suspension of the Syrian-Lebanese Supreme Council, which for decades had served as an unequal instrument in managing relations between the two countries.
While we in the Syrian Future Movement welcome this step, we consider it a necessary beginning to dismantle the system of hegemony established by the Assad regime through this council. This council has never been a framework of equals or balance, but rather served as an institutional cover for political and security tutelage over Lebanon and direct interference in its internal affairs through partisan and security tools linked to the Axis of Resistance.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the end of the Axis of Resistance project represented a pivotal moment in the history of the Arab Levant, presenting a historic opportunity to rebuild Syrian-Lebanese relations on new foundations, based on:
- Mutual recognition of national sovereignty and the rejection of any form of interference or subordination.
- Rehabilitating official diplomacy as the sole channel for regulating relations, away from the parallel frameworks that were previously managed outside the institutions.
- Opening a new page of cooperation in the economic, security, and humanitarian fields, serving the interests of the two brotherly peoples and enhancing regional stability.
We, in the Syrian Future Movement, believe that correcting the relationship between Syria and Lebanon cannot be achieved without a frank review of the past and an acknowledgment of the violations committed against the Lebanese people during decades of occupation and tutelage, starting with the assassination of national leaders and extending to the destabilization of political and security stability in Lebanon through illegitimate means.
While we emphasize that the future of relations between the two countries must be built on the foundation of partnership, not subordination, we, in the Syrian Future Movement, call on the new Syrian leadership to take courageous steps, beginning with the final abolition of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council and the establishment of a new joint committee tasked with restructuring bilateral relations in accordance with international standards and in line with the aspirations of both peoples for freedom, sovereignty, and dignity.
In conclusion, the Syrian Future Movement extends its hand to all national forces in Lebanon and Syria, in order to build a new Levantine space, free of hegemony, based on cooperation and integration, and immune to expansionist and tutelage projects, regardless of their source.
