World Animal Day

The Syrian Future Movement commemorates World Animal Day, which falls on October 4th of each year. This day has been internationally recognized as a global occasion to renew the moral and humanitarian commitment to the protection and welfare of animals.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that respect for life in all its forms, including animal life, is an integral part of the vision of the new Syria we seek as a progressive civil state that respects rights, upholds the value of human beings and the environment, and fosters a culture of compassion and justice.

Animals in Syria, like humans, have suffered from the effects of war, destruction, and neglect. Their natural habitats have been damaged, neglected, or exploited, and environmental and regulatory policies that ensure their protection have been absent. Therefore, commemorating this day in the Syrian context carries a double significance and calls for serious national action to consolidate the values of animal welfare in legislation and societal practices.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes:

  1. Integrating the values of animal welfare into the new Syrian system by incorporating them into educational curricula and activating the role of the media in spreading environmental and ethical awareness.
  2. Calling on the Syrian government and relevant institutions to effectively accede to relevant international agreements, most notably the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and activating cooperation with relevant international organizations.
  3. Launching national programs for animal protection, including supporting shelters, developing deterrent legislation against animal abuse, and providing veterinary care in affected areas.
  4. Encouraging community initiatives that promote a culture of compassion and support volunteer work in the field of animal protection, especially in rural and marginalized areas.

The Syrian Future Movement views World Animal Day as an opportunity to affirm its commitment to building a Syria that respects life and upholds human and environmental dignity. It emphasizes this position in the paper published on our official website, “The Syrian Future Movement and Animal Rights,” dated April 14, 2024. It renews its call to all national and international forces to work together to consolidate these values during the reconstruction and political transition phase.
