The Syrian Future Movement is closely monitoring international developments related to our country and affirms its role in promoting stability and reconstruction in the new Syria.
In this context, we welcome the US Treasury Department’s decision to lift the Syrian sanctions lists, which represents a positive step toward supporting the Syrian people in the post-tyranny era.
We believe that this decision is in implementation of Executive Order 14312, issued by the US President on June 30, 2025, and officially announced on August 25, 2025, to take effect on August 26, 2025. This order includes removing Syria from economic sanctions lists, while maintaining targeted sanctions on terrorist organizations such as ISIS, human rights violators, and those involved in chemical weapons programs.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that sanctions were first imposed on May 11, 2004, through Executive Order 13338, due to the actions of the Bashar al-Assad regime, such as supporting terrorism, occupying Lebanon, pursuing weapons of mass destruction, and undermining the stability of Iraq. These sanctions were later reinforced by laws such as the Caesar Act in 2019, which focused on preventing reconstruction under Assad’s rule, thus exacerbating the humanitarian suffering of Syrians during the 14-year civil war.
The Syrian Future Movement believes this decision carries multiple positive implications, as it opens the door to international investment and reconnects the Syrian banking system to the global economy. This helps alleviate the poverty that 80% of Syrians suffer from and paves the way for the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure.
It also reflects international recognition of the positive changes Syria has witnessed since the fall of the former regime and encourages the strengthening of regional stability.
However, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of preserving full Syrian sovereignty and ensuring that any international cooperation is based on respect for human rights, transparency, and the inclusive participation of all components of the Syrian people, without foreign interference imposing their agendas. We also view this resolution as an opportunity to promote democracy and justice, but it requires internal efforts to combat corruption and consolidate the rule of law.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on all international parties to genuinely support Syria, free from narrow interests, and affirms its commitment to building a free and advanced Syria based on the principles of the Syrian revolution. As a national role, we will closely monitor the implementation of this resolution and work to ensure that it serves the interests of the Syrian people first and foremost.
