Targeting Red Crescent Teams in Sweida and Jordanian Mediation

The Syrian Future Movement is following with deep concern the targeting of Syrian Arab Red Crescent teams on Friday, August 8, 2025, while carrying out a humanitarian mission in As-Suwayda Governorate. The attack resulted in material damage to several vehicles, but no human casualties. The movement affirms that this attack constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of humanitarian neutrality, threatens the safety of relief workers, and exacerbates the suffering of civilians in an area already suffering from a severe deterioration in health and food services.

While we, the Syrian Future Movement, condemn this attack, we stress the need to respect international humanitarian law and ensure the freedom and safety of medical and relief teams in carrying out their duties, free from any political or military exploitation. In this context, we welcome the diplomatic efforts led by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as reported in Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper on August 10, 2025, which reported preparations for a meeting in Amman between representatives of the Syrian government and dignitaries from As-Suwayda Governorate, with international and regional support and coordination, and with the participation of US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack and Arab and Turkish foreign ministers.

The Syrian Future Movement views this initiative as a valuable opportunity to launch a responsible national dialogue that takes into account the demands of the people of As-Suwayda, contributes to calming tensions, and puts an end to the repeated attacks on civilians and vital facilities, including the National Hospital, which has suffered severe damage in recent weeks.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for:

  1. The formation of an independent committee to investigate the violations against civilians and humanitarian facilities in As-Suwayda and bring those responsible to justice.
  2. Ensuring full protection for humanitarian and medical teams and ensuring their neutrality from any conflict or targeting.
  3. Supporting regional and international dialogue initiatives.
  4. Launching a comprehensive national process that restores transitional justice and guarantees the political and civil rights of all Syrians, without discrimination or exclusion.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the solution in Syria cannot be based on security, military, or the invocation of occupation. Rather, it begins with the recognition of rights, respect for dignity, and openness to a comprehensive national dialogue that leads to a democratic civil state that ends decades of tyranny and division.
