Statement issued by the Syrian Democratic platform regarding developments in the Sweida Governorate

The Syrian Democratic platForm, which comprises a group of national and democratic parties, movements, and civil society organizations, is following with deep concern the dangerous escalation taking place in As-Suwayda Governorate, coinciding with stifling humanitarian and living conditions and international and regional polarizations that threaten the social fabric and push toward division and secession from the unified Syrian national project. We, at the Syrian Democratic Forum, see the people of As-Suwayda Governorate as a broad nationalist movement that believes in the civil state, citizenship, and dignity. We must open up to this movement and support it through all possible political and social means to preserve the unity of Syria, its land and people, and to reject all forms of isolation, neglect, or collective accusations. Based on this

vision, we declare the following:
First:

We call for the immediate and unconditional lifting of the security and economic blockade imposed on As-Suwayda Governorate, as a fundamental step toward defusing tensions and creating a climate for inclusive national dialogue. We warn against the consequences of continuing with the security approach, which has proven its failure. We call for the political and negotiating process to prevail as the only way to resolve the crisis, categorically rejecting any calls for external support (whatever), whether from our people in As-Suwayda or from the Syrian state.

Second:

We demand the urgent delivery of humanitarian, medical, and relief aid without any obstacles or discrimination, through transparent mechanisms and under the oversight of independent international and local organizations. In this context, we call for the formation of a neutral mediation committee of trusted national figures, agreed upon by both parties (the state and the people of As-Suwayda), to serve as a channel for dialogue and a guarantee for the delivery of aid and building trust.

Third:

We emphasize the necessity of launching a comprehensive Syrian-Syrian dialogue that paves the way for a comprehensive national conference in which national forces agree on the foundations of a new constitution that guarantees equal rights for all components, the formation of a unified national army that transcends sectarian and regional boundaries, and the building of genuine civil institutions capable of representing the aspirations of all Syrians.

Fourth:

We call on all Syrians, both at home and abroad, to stand united in the face of attempts at fragmentation and to engage in a national Syrian political project that rebuilds the state on the basis of justice, freedom, and equal citizenship.

Finally:

The Syrian Democratic platForm renews its commitment to a peaceful political solution, its rejection of all forms of violence and exclusion, and its support for our people in Sweida and all Syrian governorates in their legitimate struggle for dignity, justice, and national participation.
