Israeli interventions in Quneitra Governorate on July 11, 2025

The Syrian Future Movement is following with deep concern the revelations made by the Deputy Governor of Quneitra on July 11, 2025, regarding the establishment by the Israeli occupation forces of more than eight military bases within the buffer zone stipulated in the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. This has led to the closure of six thousand hectares of agricultural land and pastures, causing an economic and humanitarian catastrophe for thousands of Syrian families in the south.

The Syrian Future Movement considers these violations a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, most notably the Geneva Conventions and Security Council Resolutions 338 and 242, which affirm the inadmissibility of the occupation of territory by force and call for respect for the sovereignty of states and the preservation of the rights of their peoples.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the continuation of this type of unilateral and illegal intervention threatens to destabilize the fragile situation in southern Syria. It is feared that it will lead to security chaos and an open conflict, the repercussions of which will expand to wider regional arenas, with dire consequences. This necessitates immediate action by the international community to put an end to these violations.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the Syrian government, as the internationally addressed party, to continue its diplomatic and political pressure through UN channels, including:

  • Submit an urgent protest note to the Security Council.
  • Call on the United Nations to send observers to document the situation on the ground.
  • Seek to bring the issue before the International Court of Justice and human rights bodies.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that protecting southern Syria and the dignity of its people is an inalienable national and sovereign responsibility. The response to these violations must be consistent with international law, avoiding reckless reactions or mutual escalation.

The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, unity, and justice, and calls on all national and international forces to stand united in the face of Israeli aggression and work to achieve a just peace based on rights, law, and national dignity.
