Return of Christian Residents to the Villages of Idlib Countryside

The Syrian Future Movement, with hearts full of hope, welcomes the return of the Christian residents of the villages of “Al-Qunaya, Al-Yaqoubiyah, and Al-Jadida” to their homes in western Idlib countryside after a forced displacement that lasted over a decade. The scenes of celebration accompanying this return, in the presence of Archbishop Hanna Jallouf, the Apostolic Vicar of the Latin Church, and the return of families to their properties, remind us of Syria’s ability to overcome its wounds when the dignity of its people is preserved and their fundamental human rights are respected.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that while this step is joyful, it also serves as a reminder that the return of displaced Syrians and refugees from all religious and ethnic backgrounds must be a guaranteed right without discrimination or political conditions. The property restitution measures initiated by the Syrian government, although positive in this context, remain part of the state’s responsibility to compensate victims and ensure transitional justice, rather than an isolated initiative aimed at international gains without a genuine commitment to resolving the broader displacement crisis.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that a safe and dignified return for all Syrians can only be achieved within a comprehensive political framework that establishes real security and rebuilds state institutions based on equal citizenship. Restoring Syria’s social fabric requires a serious international and local will to support a national reconciliation process that ends sectarian polarization, rehabilitates infrastructure, and ensures that past violations are not repeated.

The Syrian Future Movement considers the celebration of the people of Al-Qunaya, Al-Yaqoubiyah, and Al-Jadida for their homeland a clear message that the Syrian people are capable of rebuilding when the doors of justice and hope are opened for them.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that Syria is a homeland for all its people, and we will continue to be a voice for the oppressed, holding onto the spark of hope until the sun of freedom and dignity shines on every home, village, and city.
