The humanitarian initiative of Syrian doctors in Germany

The Syrian Future Movement values the noble initiative led by 65 Syrian doctors residing in Germany, who have voluntarily decided to return to their homeland from April 5 to April 30, 2024, to provide free medical support to citizens in the provinces of Damascus, Homs, Hama, Idlib, and Aleppo, in partnership with local organizations, most notably “Emergency Response.”

The Syrian Future Movement sees this self-funded initiative, which includes the provision of essential medical and surgical supplies, as a reflection of Syrians’ determination to overcome the consequences of the humanitarian catastrophe. It affirms that national solidarity can break through the walls of despair, even in the most complex circumstances. This initiative also highlights the vital role of Syrian medical professionals inside and outside the country, who refuse to let war be Syria’s only defining feature and instead work diligently to build bridges of hope through science and humanity.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that such initiatives strengthen the collapsing medical infrastructure and contribute to building a safer healthcare future for Syria. By covering critical surgical specialties (such as cardiac, neurological, and orthopedic surgery) and non-surgical medical specialties (such as internal medicine, gynecology, and anesthesia), the medical team will be able to provide life-saving services while also organizing workshops in hospitals and universities to transfer modern expertise to local medical staff.

While the Syrian Future Movement salutes this unprecedented humanitarian step, it calls on the international community and relief organizations to support such civil initiatives that reflect the Syrians’ will for reconstruction, away from political polarizations.

The Syrian Future Movement urges Syrians inside the country and in the diaspora, as well as institutions supporting humanitarian work, to contribute to covering the costs of this campaign through the designated platforms to ensure its continuity and expand its impact.

The Syrian Future Movement views this initiative as a practical model for the future of Syria—a Syria of solidarity and cooperation—where pain is transformed into positive action and fragmentation is replaced by unity of purpose. Let the step taken by these 65 doctors be the spark for launching similar initiatives that restore dignity to the homeland and uphold the Syrian people’s right to life and dignity.
