Termination of the contract signed with a Russian company to invest in the port of Tartous.

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the historic national step of reclaiming Tartus Port from the Russian company “Stroytransgaz,” returning the port’s revenues entirely to the state and the people.

The Syrian Future Movement, following the official decision issued by the Port’s General Authority on Monday, 2025/01/20, as reported by Al-Watan newspaper, awaits another decision clarifying the status of port workers under the investment contract.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the decision to reduce customs fees will enhance the port’s competitiveness with neighboring countries’ ports.

The Syrian Future Movement recognizes the significance of Tartus Port, as it is Syria’s second-largest seaport, with an annual capacity of approximately four million tons and around 20,000 containers. The port also includes a logistical support center for the Russian Navy, established in 1971 under a bilateral agreement with the Soviet Union. This step symbolizes the nationalization of the Suez Canal in 1956.
