At the kind invitation of the Jusoor Center for Studies, a delegation from the Syrian Future Movement participated on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in a seminar hosted by the Center titled: “The Perspectives of Political Forces Regarding the Draft Law on Political Parties in Syria.”
The delegation attended under the direct instruction of the Movement’s president, Dr. Zaher Badarani, and included several office directors and members. This participation reflects the leadership’s commitment to engaging positively with national initiatives aimed at developing legislation to govern political life during the transitional period.
During the seminar, members of the delegation presented the Movement’s steadfast vision: the urgent need to enact a modern political parties law that aligns with democratic standards and guarantees the freedom to establish and operate political parties, free from authoritarian restrictions. They emphasized that the Syrian Future Movement has consistently been at the forefront of forces advocating for the establishment of a state governed by the rule of law and institutions.
Reaffirming its unwavering, principled stance, the Syrian Future Movement points to its previous positions—published on its official website—which encapsulate its core philosophy:
- “There is no politics without political parties; it is either free political parties or authoritarianism.”
Regarding Article 14 of the Interim Constitutional Declaration concerning the “establishment of political parties” (March 14, 2025), the Movement asserted that Article 14—which enshrines the right to form political parties—represents a “historic step toward strengthening the democratic framework.” - The Movement further declared its full commitment to the new legal licensing process, pledging to submit its application for registration “on the very first day” the law is enacted. “On Consolidating Multiparty Pluralism in Syria” (December 12, 2024): The Movement called for the “repeal of all provisions that grant special privileges to any specific political party or restrict the freedom of political parties.” It emphasized guaranteeing the right of all citizens to freely establish and register political parties, and the abolition of laws that prohibit political activity.
- “The Syrian Future Movement and Freedom” (February 4, 2024): The Movement stressed that any attempt to curtail the exercise of political freedom—absent a truly liberal legal framework—constitutes “unacceptable and condemnable tyranny.” It asserted that political freedom must be absolute and undiminished, allowing for the exercise of political agency through the formation of movements and parties.
- “Organizational Steps for the ‘New Syria’ Party” (April 19, 2026): The Movement reaffirmed its conviction that political parties serve as “the pillar of democracy and a safeguard for stability.” It warned that “the absence of genuine multiparty pluralism inevitably leads to the return of tyranny,” noting that a legitimate system in Syria is inconceivable without parties that represent the nation’s diversity and bridge the gap between the people and the authorities.
On the sidelines of the seminar, a delegation from the Syrian Future Movement held meetings with representatives from various participating political parties and movements—including allies within the Kurdish National Council—during which both sides underscored the importance of continued coordination and inclusive national dialogue at this critical juncture. The Syrian Future Movement concludes by expressing its thanks and appreciation to the Jusoor Center for Studies for its kind invitation and excellent organization, reaffirming its ongoing readiness to participate in all initiatives that serve the cause of freedom and democratic development in Syria.
