The Syrian Future Movement is following up on the agreement signed by the Syrian Ministry of Information with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on March 4, 2026. This agreement aims to train and qualify more than 775 media professionals and staff across various governorates through six specialized diploma programs delivered at the Ministry’s Media Training Institute over a six-month period.
The Syrian Future Movement views this initiative as a significant developmental opportunity in a sector that is among the most affected by the political and social changes of the transitional phase. It appreciates the focus on modern and essential fields such as:
- Artificial Intelligence in Media
- Digital Design
- Professional Photography
- Journalistic Editing
- Radio and Television Presentation
- The Art of Public Speaking
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that building professional capacity in the media sector is a fundamental pillar for raising the level of media performance, enhancing the ability to counter media disinformation, and improving the quality of content provided to the Syrian public amidst the significant challenges facing society for years.
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement points out that the spread of misinformation has become one of the most prominent media challenges in Syria. Local and international reports have shown a significant increase in the volume of rumors and fake news following the recent political changes, which underscores the importance of such training programs in promoting fact-checking and professional impartiality.
The Syrian Future Movement also calls for these training efforts to be translated into professional and ethical practices that align with international standards of media freedom. It emphasizes the importance of considering the following points to ensure the program’s success and the achievement of its true developmental goals:
- Expanding the scope of participation to include independent media professionals and journalists outside the government framework, reflecting a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the media sector.
- Ensuring the independence of the training content and preventing its transformation into a tool for promoting a one-sided media narrative, while focusing on core professional values (accuracy, impartiality, fact-checking, respect for individual privacy, and combating hate speech).
- Linking the program to clear and transparent mechanisms for impact evaluation and monitoring the application of acquired skills in daily practice, along with publishing periodic public reports on results and achievements to enhance public trust.
- These training efforts must be complemented by legislative and executive measures that protect freedom of expression, ensure the safety of journalists and media workers, and eliminate all forms of prior censorship or pressure on free media work.
The Syrian Future Movement reaffirms its commitment to supporting every national and international effort aimed at building a professional, independent, and responsible Syrian media that contributes to strengthening public trust, countering media polarization and disinformation, and supporting the peaceful political transition towards a democratic civil state based on the principles of equal citizenship and justice.
