The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the practical step announced by the Kurdish Rudaw Network on March 24, 2026, regarding the dispatch of 28 officers from the Syrian Democratic Forces (18 from the Jazira region and 10 from the Ain al-Arab/Kobani region) to the Syrian Ministry of Defense’s Military Academy in Damascus in the coming days. They will undergo training lasting between six months and a year, preparing them for leadership positions at the brigade and battalion levels. Upon graduation, they will receive appropriate military ranks such as brigadier general and colonel.
The Syrian Future Movement views this first group—to be followed by additional groups—as a practical implementation of the January 29, 2026 agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces. This agreement stipulates the gradual integration of forces and institutions in northeastern Syria into the structures of a unified Syrian state, along with the abolition of the Autonomous Administration and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish). As Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed al-Hilali confirmed on March 13, 2026, “After the implementation of the agreement, there will be no such thing as an Autonomous Administration or Internal Security Forces, but rather a unified Syrian state.”
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this step represents significant progress towards building a unified national army that reflects the diversity of the Syrian people, protects the unity of Syrian territory, and puts an end to the long-standing military divisions, while ensuring the rights of all Syrian communities, including the cultural and linguistic rights of the Kurdish people as an integral component of the national fabric.
The Syrian Future Movement calls for expediting the implementation of the remaining provisions of the agreement, including the integration of civilian institutions, the transfer of sovereign resources, and the formation of joint oversight mechanisms that guarantee transparency and fairness. It also calls for leveraging the positive international support for this process to make it a model for ending divisions in other Syrian regions.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that building a unified, civil, and democratic Syria requires genuine integration that combines national unity and justice for all communities, places the interests of the Syrian people above all narrow considerations, and paves the way for lasting stability and comprehensive development.
