Launching a comprehensive campaign to remove rubble and war debris in Idlib province

The Syrian Future Movement warmly welcomes and commends the launch of a comprehensive campaign to remove rubble and war debris in Idlib Governorate, announced by the Idlib Governorate in coordination with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management on February 16, 2026, as part of serious and organized national recovery efforts.

The Syrian Future Movement views this campaign as a crucial and significant step towards restoring normalcy to the lives of millions of Syrians who have suffered years of destruction and displacement. The campaign encompasses Idlib city, Maaret al-Numan, Khan Sheikhoun, and Jisr al-Shughour, as well as various rural areas, with a focus on removing mines and unexploded ordnance, and creating a safe environment for the return of residents and the resumption of essential services.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the effective coordination between Idlib Governor Muhammad Abdul Rahman and Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh, which resulted in an agreement to expand the scope of work to include all areas without exception and to open new emergency response centers in rural Idlib, thus enhancing the speed of response and effective field deployment.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that these efforts are part of a comprehensive national vision for reconstruction. Syria inherited a heavy legacy of destruction, including more than 250,000 homes and 800 schools in Idlib Governorate alone. Removing the rubble is the crucial first step towards rebuilding infrastructure and restoring confidence in the future, especially with the return of hundreds of thousands of displaced people since the end of 2014.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for strengthening these national efforts by:

  • Mobilizing international and regional support to provide the necessary heavy machinery and funding, while drawing on similar successful experiences in other areas (such as the removal of tens of thousands of cubic meters of rubble in Aleppo and other areas).
  • Ensuring transparency and efficiency in the campaign’s implementation, prioritizing densely populated areas with extensive damage.
  • Linking rubble removal to comprehensive rehabilitation plans for public facilities, roads, and schools to achieve a sustainable recovery that restores dignity to Syrians and their right to a safe and decent life.
  • Special attention should be paid to the campaign’s impact on displaced children and families. Restoring security to the streets of Idlib means bringing laughter back to its schools and hope back to the hearts of hundreds of thousands of displaced children and families.
  • Working to expand this project to all Syrian governorates in need of rubble removal.

The Syrian Future Movement sees this campaign as a symbol of the Syrian people’s determination to overcome the painful legacy of the past and build a new, unified, and civil Syria, free from tyranny and extremism, capable of welcoming back its displaced citizens and ensuring prosperity for future generations.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all Syrians—individuals and institutions alike—to actively participate in supporting these national efforts. Recovery is a shared responsibility, and the future is being built today with resolve and determination.
