International Day of Human Fraternity

The world celebrates the International Day of Human Fraternity on February 4, 2026, a day proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 75/200 of December 21, 2020. This annual occasion aims to promote the values of peace and peaceful coexistence among peoples. The day’s origins trace back to earlier international efforts to foster a culture of peace, such as the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace in 1999 (General Assembly resolution 53/243) and the declaration of World Interfaith Harmony Week in 2010 (resolution 65/5). It represents the culmination of post-World War II efforts to promote international cooperation and respect for human rights without discrimination based on race, gender, language, or religion.

It is also closely linked to the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together, signed by His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb in Abu Dhabi in 2019, becoming a symbol of dialogue among religions and cultures.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this day embodies lofty human values that unite all of humanity, including equality in dignity and rights, mutual respect instead of suspicion and hostility, compassion and tolerance based on genuine respect, and inclusivity and acceptance of cultural and religious diversity, including freedom of expression of religious identity.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for dialogue among communities of different religions and beliefs to deepen mutual understanding and reject discrimination, racism, hatred, and hostile rhetoric, emphasizing that we are all part of one human family, strengthened by mutual support, love, and harmony in an environmentally sustainable world.

In 2026, the theme is “Dialogue Instead of Division,” which calls for listening attentively, speaking responsibly, and creating safe spaces to discuss differences without causing harm.

We in the Syrian Future Movement reaffirm our commitment to these values, which align with our vision for building the Syria of the future: a diverse and united Syria, relying on national consensus and civil peace to recover from the devastating effects of war.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that human fraternity is the foundation for building a Syrian society that unites all its religious, ethnic, and cultural groups, free from the division and hatred sown by the former regime.

We call upon all Syrians to strengthen these values through national dialogue, respect for human rights, and working towards justice and equality, so that together we may build a homeland of peace and prosperity.

Let us stand united in facing the challenges, inspired by the spirit of human fraternity, to achieve a better future for Syria and the world at large.
