On February 4, 2026, as the Syrian people celebrate the 79th anniversary of Damascus Radio, the nation witnesses a pivotal moment: the relaunch of this venerable media institution in a state-of-the-art digital format. This includes a comprehensive technological transformation, the integration of artificial intelligence tools, an expanded digital and satellite presence via Nilesat, a revival of historical radio dramas, and the launch of over one hundred new programs covering all of Syria and beyond.
The Syrian Future Movement views this step as more than just a media modernization; it is an expression of a profound national will to rebuild Syrian media on solid institutional foundations, far removed from the logic of monopoly, unilateral control, and the promotion of violence that characterized the era of the ousted regime. Damascus Radio, historically the second oldest Arab radio station and deeply ingrained in the hearts of generations of Syrians and Arabs, is today reclaiming its role as a bridge of civilization that unites rather than divides, and as a developmental tool that strengthens national unity, opens the doors to genuine dialogue, and contributes to repairing the social fabric torn apart by years of tyranny and war.
Based on our strategic vision of building a modern, democratic, and civil state founded on freedom, equal citizenship, and social justice, without denying religious guidance or transgressing the values of the Syrian citizen:
We in the Syrian Future Movement affirm that free, independent, and professional media is a fundamental pillar of the national revival project. We emphasize that the relaunch of Damascus Radio should serve as a model for this new media landscape: a comprehensive platform reflecting the diversity of the Syrian people in all their cultural and social components. It should also enable the active participation of youth, creative individuals, and experts, and adopt a discourse that promotes national reconciliation, confronts hate speech, and builds trust between citizens and the state.
The Syrian Future Movement views this transformation with a forward-looking perspective. In the age of artificial intelligence and multimedia, radio cannot remain merely a traditional broadcast. Rather, it must evolve into an interactive national knowledge network, integrating deep cultural heritage with technological innovation, to become a voice for sustainable development, education, culture, and the national economy, and to strengthen national unity in the face of attempts at division and fragmentation.
We also believe that the success of this project hinges on its genuine openness to all free Syrian voices, its avoidance of any form of political manipulation or exclusion, and its ability to build broad national partnerships that guarantee its sustainability and long-term impact.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on those in charge of the new Damascus Radio to make it a pioneer in reshaping the Syrian social contract through media: a contract based on transparency, dialogue, and participation, restoring Syrians’ confidence in their ability to build a shared future.
We affirm our full support for every effort in this direction, with our commitment to contributing intellectually and practically to the development of a national media worthy of our people’s sacrifices and contributing to achieving the goals of the revolution: a state strong in its institutions, free in its citizens, and united in its diversity.
