The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the official acknowledgment by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of violations committed by its members that resulted in civilian casualties in the eastern Aleppo countryside, specifically in the area between the villages of Khrous and Zalkhak, near the city of Kobani (Ayn al-Arab).
We view this acknowledgment, which was accompanied by immediate measures including the dismissal of the direct commander and his referral to a military court, as a tangible and positive step towards establishing the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of military and security affairs. It also reflects a response to public and media pressure resulting from the dissemination of video footage that revealed the incident.
The Syrian Future Movement considers this action an encouraging first step towards establishing criminal justice and implementing international human rights standards as defined by the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols relating to the protection of civilians in times of armed conflict.
In the context of the complex Syrian conflict, which has witnessed repeated violations by various parties, such an acknowledgment demonstrates the possibility of moving from denial to accountability. This contributes to building trust among the diverse Syrian communities and strengthens the prospects for achieving comprehensive national reconciliation.
However, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that this step should not be exceptional or limited, but rather should be generalized as an institutional policy that guarantees respect for the right to life and human dignity, in accordance with international standards that reject extrajudicial killings and ethnic or sectarian discrimination.
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement calls for strengthening internal control and oversight mechanisms within all military and security formations, including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to prevent the recurrence of such violations. It categorically rejects these violations by all parties involved in the Syrian conflict, whether governmental, opposition, or regional.
We affirm that the rejection of violations must be a general principle applicable to all, and we call for independent investigations under the supervision of international organizations such as the UN Human Rights Council to ensure transparency and impartiality and to guarantee compensation for victims and their families.
The Syrian Future Movement also stresses the need to reject any attempts to exploit such incidents to escalate ethnic or sectarian tensions. Syria is a country of diversity, which should become a source of strength, not division.
The Syrian Future Movement believes the time has come to end the military escalation between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government, especially after the extension of the deadline. We call on all parties to engage in a serious national dialogue leading to the integration of the SDF and other armed groups into the institutions of a unified Syrian state, under a constitutional framework that guarantees equal rights for all components of Syrian society.
We consider this integration a strategic necessity for transitioning from a phase of military conflict to one of peaceful political competition, where ideas and programs compete at the ballot box instead of on the battlefield.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that our national vision for the future is based on building a future Syria as a pluralistic, democratic, and civil state, where justice is the foundation of stability, human rights are the cornerstone of public policy, and national unity is a shared goal uniting Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, Assyrians, and all the people of Syria.
We are committed to promoting comprehensive national dialogue and supporting relief and development projects in all Syrian regions to build bridges of trust and pave the way for a future of peace and prosperity.
