Supporting the call of the governor of Suwaida to form a comprehensive national dialogue committee

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the call by the Governor of Suwayda, Dr. Mustafa al-Bakour, to form a “National Dialogue Committee” comprising representatives from all parties in the governorate. The aim is to overcome divisions, strengthen stability, and discuss societal concerns rationally and without escalation.

We view this call, issued by the Governor in his official statement on January 22, 2026, as coming at a crucial time, as the state regains full sovereignty over all Syrian territory. It represents a strategic step towards national reconciliation and civil peace. This follows his earlier call for dialogue in Suwayda, where we affirmed our support for and advocated the formation of local national dialogue committees in every governorate, including Suwayda. These committees would include representatives from community leaders, activists, youth, and specialists to discuss legitimate demands and formulate tailored development plans. These plans should be linked to sustainable agricultural support programs that utilize ecological farming techniques to address climate change, and to the establishment of national trade networks for marketing local products.

This was stated in our statement published on January 20, 2026, on our official website, titled “Governor of Suwayda Calls for National Reconciliation.”

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that constructive dialogue among the people of Suwaida – its wise leaders, elders, and those of sound judgment and wisdom – is the best way to heal wounds, overcome differences, and strengthen national unity.

We also affirm that Suwaida, which has been and will remain a bastion of Arabism and dignity, possesses a history of awareness and wisdom that qualifies it to be at the forefront of those striving for reconciliation.

We in the Syrian Future Movement believe that the state is a homeland for all, regardless of differing opinions, and that the homeland is capable of embracing all its citizens and protecting their interests, provided that this is done through official channels and in accordance with the constitution and the law.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this approach aligns with the principles of transitional justice stipulated in the 2025 Interim Constitutional Declaration, which calls for a comprehensive national dialogue that includes all Syrian components to achieve reconciliation and rebuild trust.

This call also reflects a commitment to international obligations, including Security Council resolutions related to a political solution in Syria, and the framework that encourages internal dialogue to overcome divisions. In light of recent positive developments, such as the agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces on January 18, 2026, this dialogue, if it takes place and succeeds, will represent a natural extension of efforts to restore national stability.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms its commitment to supporting every effort aimed at:

  • Forming local and national dialogue committees that include representatives from all segments of society without exclusion.
  • Ensuring the realization of the legitimate rights of the people of Suwaida through transparent constitutional and legal mechanisms.
  • Strengthening the role of civil society and community leaders in building trust and preventing foreign interference that might exploit disagreements.
  • Linking these efforts to the reconstruction and sustainable development of the governorate.

The Syrian Future Movement calls upon the people of Suwaida—including political forces, factions, community leaders, intellectuals, women, and youth—to respond positively to this call and participate in the comprehensive national dialogue. It also calls upon the Syrian government to facilitate the formation of this committee and provide the necessary support for its success.

We believe that our national unity is the guarantee for the future of a free, unified, and independent Syria, and we in the Syrian Future Movement are committed to supporting every step that serves this goal.
