At a pivotal moment in the history of the new Syria, the Syrian Future Movement welcomes Presidential Decree No. (13) of 2026, issued by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, which grants full recognition to Syrian Kurdish citizens as an integral part of the Syrian people and restores their civil, cultural, and linguistic rights, which they have been deprived of for decades.
The Syrian Future Movement views this decree not merely as a temporary political gain, but as a national entitlement and a long-overdue legitimate right. It has now come to establish a new era of justice and equality for all citizens, without discrimination or exclusion.
Previous regimes, most notably the Assad regime, failed to address this issue in a just and national manner, not due to administrative incompetence, but because they chose to exploit the Kurdish question as a regional pressure tactic and a tool for forging temporary alliances or creating tensions with neighboring countries, instead of using it as a bridge to building genuine national unity.
This decree has brought an end to the political exploitation of sectarian groups and ushered in an era of equal citizenship.
We in the Syrian Future Movement consider this step a national necessity and a moral and humanitarian imperative. It lays the foundation for a new social contract and affirms that the future Syria will not be built on domination or power-sharing, but rather on full partnership in rights and responsibilities under the sovereignty of a single state.
We in the Syrian Future Movement also emphasize that this decision removes the pretexts previously used to justify separatist projects or unilateral rule. It redefines the relationship between the state and its constituent groups on the basis of mutual trust, not on the logic of protection or reliance on foreign powers.
While we commend the courage of this historic step, we call upon all political and social forces to embrace this decree with a spirit of national responsibility and to engage in the path of comprehensive reconciliation and nation-building, thus guaranteeing the unity of Syria, both its land and its people.
