The Syrian Future Movement is closely monitoring regional developments, reflecting our commitment to building the future of Syria. The Syrian Future Movement warmly welcomes the news published in the media on January 2, 2026, announcing that Lebanese authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of remnants of the ousted Syrian regime within Lebanese territory.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this investigation is a decisive response to Iranian attempts to reorganize the remnants of the Fourth Division, linked to Maher al-Assad and Iran, by mobilizing its members in camps on the Iraqi border, in the Hermel region of Lebanon, and in areas of eastern Syria controlled by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), with the aim of launching security operations inside Syria.
The Syrian Future Movement highlights the involvement of figures such as Ghiath Dalla, Major General Kamal Hassan (the former head of military intelligence), and Major General Ghassan Bilal, in addition to a secret visit by Kamal Hassan and a businessman affiliated with the Assad family to Israel to discuss potential Israeli support for the Syrian coastal region.
The Syrian Future Movement views the leaked documents and recordings, revealed by credible media reports in recent days, as conclusive evidence of Rami Makhlouf’s role—Bashar al-Assad’s cousin—in leading the organizational structure of remnants of the former regime, with their groups now operating in the governorates of Homs, Hama, Latakia, Tartus, and Damascus.
The Syrian Future Movement also points to the presence of former regime pilots residing in Lebanon who are seeking to join these groups, in addition to former Brigadier General Suheil al-Hassan establishing an office in Lebanon near the Syrian border to manage operations.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the statements made by Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri on January 2, 2026, via the X platform, reflect legitimate concern about these movements. It calls on Lebanese security agencies to investigate and take the necessary measures to avert threats to Syria’s unity and security, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation with Syrian authorities based on mutual trust and respect.
The Syrian Future Movement observes a decline in Russian support for certain remnants of the old regime, coinciding with the rapprochement between Damascus and Moscow following the fall of the former regime in December 2014. This event marked a historic turning point after the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in March 2011. We anticipate that reports regarding the presence of individuals involved in activities against the Syrian transitional administration on Russian soil will have an impact.
The Syrian Future Movement considers this investigation a strategic step towards strengthening the national sovereignty of Syria and Lebanon and combating all attempts to revive the despotic regime that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands. Drawing lessons from history, we aim to ensure that the crimes committed between March 2011 and December 2014 are not repeated. Therefore, we call upon the Lebanese government to complete the investigation swiftly and transparently, and to take decisive legal measures, including the extradition of the perpetrators to Syrian justice. We emphasize that there is no political cover for any activity that transforms Lebanon into a platform for aggression.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms the necessity of strengthening fraternal ties with the brotherly Lebanese people through security and economic cooperation that serves mutual interests and prevents the exploitation of the border for sectarian strife. The Syrian Future Movement also extends a hand of peace to regional and international parties to support the reconstruction and reconciliation process, to build a unified Syria where everyone contributes to a future in which the voice of freedom and justice prevails.
