The Syrian Future Movement expresses its deep and sincere appreciation for the efforts of the Syrian Civil Defense teams affiliated with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disaster Management.
It considers these efforts, exemplified by the 132 field responses carried out on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in response to the effects of the polar depression that began impacting the region on December 31, 2025, to be a model of humanitarian dedication and professional competence in protecting citizens and property.
This appreciation stems from the Syrian Future Movement’s commitment to the values of the Syrian revolution, which led to the downfall of the Assad regime. The responses included clearing 34 main and secondary roads blocked by snow or flooding, addressing 61 flood-affected locations in displacement camps, homes, and streets, responding to 10 traffic accidents with no fatalities, and towing 8 stranded vehicles across the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Tartus, Hama, Homs, Damascus, and Rural Damascus. These operations, carried out by the Civil Defense teams formerly known as the White Helmets, which have become an integral part of the new government system, underscore Syria’s capacity to effectively respond to natural disasters, despite inherited economic and environmental challenges.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that such efforts are not merely emergency responses, but rather fundamental steps towards building an integrated disaster management system based on coordination between government institutions and civil society, while leveraging international support to enhance preventative capabilities.
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement calls for expanding this experience through advanced training programs for volunteers, improving infrastructure in marginalized areas such as IDP camps, and integrating modern weather forecasting technologies to mitigate future losses, especially given the forecast that the cold wave will continue until January 8, 2026. We also emphasize the importance of community participation in building a culture of disaster preparedness, transforming climate challenges into opportunities to strengthen national unity and sustainable development.
The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its gratitude to all Civil Defense members and volunteers who continue their dedicated work, and reaffirms its commitment to supporting these noble humanitarian efforts. The new Syria, based on the principles of justice and transparency, will remain committed to protecting its citizens from all threats, whether natural or man-made, to build a future of peace and prosperity for all.
