A large, high-level delegation from the Syrian Future Movement, headed by its president, Dr. Zaher Badran, visited the office of the Kurdish National Council in Damascus on December 13, 2025. They were received by:
Nimat Daoud, member of the Presidency of the Kurdish National Council in Syria;
Mahabad Tiziani, head of the Damascus Relations Office; and Luqman Oso, head of the Damascus Local Council.
Dr. Daoud welcomed the delegation and, at their request, provided a detailed account of historical events. He discussed the oppression suffered by the Kurds at the hands of successive regimes in Syria, particularly during the rule of both Hafez al-Assad and Bashar al-Assad. He detailed a series of chauvinistic and racist projects, beginning with Muhammad Talab Hilal’s project to Arabize Kurdish areas, followed by the exceptional census of 1962, and the Arab Belt project of 1972.
Dr. Daoud then recounted the history of the Kurdish National Council since its formation and its role in opposing the Assad regime. He highlighted the positions of the Kurdish National Council in Syria in supporting the Syrian people in all their diversity, and its participation with the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, until the fall of the regime on December 8, 2014.
Following this, researcher Wael Alwan presented on the Jisr Center for Studies and its role in providing studies and research, as well as offering consultations and recommendations to decision-making centers in the country.
The visiting delegation then participated in the discussions, offering their insights and opinions on the Kurdish issue in Syria and ways to resolve it within the framework of national unity.
Opinions varied, leading to an in-depth discussion on the necessary and crucial solutions to the Kurdish issue. The consensus was that the solution lies in practicing democracy and equal citizenship, along with the Syrian Future Movement’s proposal for decentralized services and peaceful coexistence, while also emphasizing the importance of the Kurdish language as a second official language in the country and the first language for the inhabitants of Kurdish regions.
Dr. Zaher Badrani moderated the dialogues and discussions during the session, working to bridge differing viewpoints and identify common political ground for moving forward and building broad horizons for coexistence in the future Syria.
The host delegation expressed its satisfaction with the meeting, and both sides proposed holding further periodic and substantive meetings to enhance joint efforts and establish a common foundation for constructive and fruitful understanding.
