The Syrian Future Movement is following with grave concern and outrage the dangerous developments that have taken place in the Suwaida Governorate over the past few days,
in particular:
- The abduction of Sheikh Raed Hikmat al-Mutni on Saturday, November 29, 2025, and his subjection to brutal torture that led to his death. His body was then dumped in front of the National Hospital in Suwaida on the night of Sunday, December 1, 2025.
- The abduction of Sheikh Maher Falhout on the same day, his death under torture, and the dumping of his body on the evening of Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
- The continued enforced disappearance of a number of prisoners of conscience in secret detention centers belonging to the so-called “National Guard” under the command of Sheikh Hikmat Shihab al-Din al-Hijri.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that these heinous crimes, committed in the name of “defending dignity” or “controlling outlaws,” are nothing but a repetition of the most abhorrent practices of the former regime against which we all revolted. There is no difference today between those who torture in the former Palestine Branch and those who torture in a secret basement in Suwaida. The victim is Syrian, the perpetrator is Syrian, and the crime is the same.
The Syrian Future Movement, while condemning in the strongest terms these grave violations of human rights, law, and morality, affirms the following:
- No authority is above the law and the unified Syrian state. No one has the right to arrest, interrogate, torture, or kill outside the legally authorized official bodies.
- Crimes of torture leading to death, enforced disappearance, and extrajudicial killing are crimes against humanity that do not expire with time. The day will come when all those involved will be held accountable, no matter how long it takes.
- Suwaida is an integral part of the Syrian homeland, and its people are Syrian citizens with equal rights and responsibilities. They are not hostages of any militia, clan, or sectarian leader.
- Any attempt to justify these crimes under the pretext of “treason” or “communication with Damascus” is a pathetic attempt to cover up corruption, tyranny, and murder.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the Syrian government to:
- Intervene immediately and decisively to restore security in the province, end the state of armed chaos, and work to remove the Israeli umbrella protecting the outlawed Druze terrorist militias.
- Open a public and independent judicial investigation into the two murders committed under torture, and hold the perpetrators and those who ordered them accountable, regardless of their positions.
- Work to immediately release all those forcibly detained in the prisons of the National Guard and other illegal facilities.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the free people of Suwaida, the honorable religious figures, and all national forces in the province to stand united against extremism and the new terrorism, to reject the transformation of Jabal al-Arab into an emirate of darkness, and to prevent anyone, regardless of their name, title, or affiliation, from returning us to the era of secret prisons and torture.
