The Syrian Future Movement believes that the launch of the new print and online edition of the Syrian Revolution newspaper represents a restoration of a national media landscape after years of disruption and closure of print media. We emphasize that a free press, both print and digital, is a cornerstone of building a modern state, reflecting the concerns, hopes, and daily issues of the people.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the new press should be a platform for strengthening a unified national identity and liberating the public sphere from exclusion and marginalization by representing all segments of society without the dominance of any particular group.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that journalism must be practiced responsibly, with respect for truth and transparency, free from partisan propaganda or authoritarian control, to achieve a national press that safeguards the dignity of citizens and reflects their aspirations.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that a free press must accompany the process of building state institutions—the judiciary, administration, justice system, and human rights—so that it contributes to exposing corruption, holding officials accountable, and ensuring public oversight, rather than being merely a mouthpiece for the government.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that integrating print journalism with digital platforms offers an opportunity for genuine public debate, community participation, and a deepening of political and cultural awareness—all essential in the post-liberation and restructuring phase.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that launching a newspaper at this stage carries a significant economic cost—in a country grappling with a cost-of-living crisis, weak purchasing power, and urgent needs. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the newspaper’s resources are transparent and not used as a tool for unjustified spending at the expense of citizens’ basic priorities.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the new newspaper stands at a crossroads: it can either be the true beginning of independent and professional media, or it can become a media tool subservient to the central government. Therefore, it is vital that its freedom is genuine and that it provides a platform for independent and constructive opposition, not merely a regurgitation of official discourse.
Based on the above, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:
- The newspaper should adopt a clear professional and ethical charter: independence, professionalism, transparency, respect for differing opinions, and pluralism of voices.
- Encouraging the press to cover issues of transitional justice, citizens’ rights, reconstruction, the economy, youth, migration, and displacement—not just politics or the official economy.
- Opening up space for civil society organizations, marginalized groups, the opposition, and displaced persons, so that the media becomes a bridge for positive and constructive dialogue, not a tool for misinformation or whitewashing the authorities.
- Linking the media to a comprehensive national project: media + civil society + transparent institutions + a stable economy, because the press alone cannot change reality.
- Inviting all Syrians to participate: reading, critiquing, proposing, and following up, because the press belongs first and foremost to the people, not to those in power.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the relaunch of the Syrian Revolution newspaper on December 1, 2025, represents, in principle, a national opportunity to build a free, professional, and pluralistic media that reflects the pain and hopes of Syrians and contributes to the project of rebuilding the state.
However, this opportunity is fraught with challenges; therefore, it must be translated into a fair and independent media reality, not become merely a reproduction of official discourse.
