The Federation of Insurance Companies and the Federation of Insurance Agents and Brokers in Syria have been dissolved.

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the announcement issued by Finance Minister Mohammed Yasser Barnieh on December 12, 2025, dissolving the Insurance Companies Union and the Insurance Agents and Brokers Union, paving the way for new elections within the next two months. This announcement also calls for the development of a comprehensive national strategy aimed at strengthening the principles of good governance, combating corruption, adopting advanced international standards, and outlining a roadmap for reforming the health insurance system in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

The Syrian Future Movement considers this announcement a strategic step towards enhancing economic and social stability. The insurance sector, which has long suffered from monopoly and institutional corruption under the previous regime, represents a crucial gateway to rebuilding the national economy, which has shrunk by more than 80% since the outbreak of the revolution in 2011. We believe that this reform can lead to a qualitative leap in the size of the insurance market, attract foreign investment, and bolster confidence in financial institutions, thus contributing to supporting the return of millions of refugees and the reconstruction of the devastated infrastructure.

Furthermore, the focus on health insurance reform reflects an awareness of the need to build a just social system that guarantees the right to health as a fundamental right for every citizen, especially in light of the health challenges resulting from years of conflict and economic crises.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the success of this step hinges on several crucial factors, most importantly:

1- The transparency of the new elections must be guaranteed through independent oversight that includes representatives from civil society, international organizations, and diverse political forces, to avoid any suspicion of interference or political bias that could reproduce past patterns of corruption.

2- Given the political fragility of the transitional phase, the ongoing tensions in the eastern and southern regions, and the need to resolve conflicts with Kurdish forces and integrate them into the national framework, any delay in implementation could lead to temporary chaos in the sector, exacerbating the suffering of citizens already struggling with high costs and a lack of basic services.

3- We warn against the dangers of unregulated privatization, which could benefit a limited economic elite at the expense of the poor. We call for linking the national strategy to a comprehensive social security system that balances market efficiency with social justice, while guaranteeing decent salaries for medical and technical personnel to prevent their emigration.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the transitional government to announce the precise details of the national strategy as soon as possible and to conduct a broad national dialogue that includes all political and social actors to ensure the implementation of reforms that strengthen national unity and build a solid foundation for lasting civil peace.

The Syrian Future Movement also affirms its commitment to supporting every national initiative that reinforces Syrian principles and works toward a prosperous future that combines economic progress with the preservation of a shared national identity.
