Speech by the Legal Office of the Syrian Future Movement at the Central Ceremony Commemorating the First Anniversary of the Victory of the Syrian Revolution and the Fall of the Assad Regime
Distinguished Guests: On the first anniversary of liberation, we stand today to speak the language of justice, the language of law, and with a voice that represents the conscience of this nation, which has paid a heavy price to stand on the threshold of a new era, built on the rule of law, not the tyranny of oppression.
Lawyers and human rights advocates have been—and remain—the cornerstone of protecting societies and preserving human dignity.
They are the watchful eyes of power, the scales that regulate the performance of institutions, and the bulwark that prevents the state from descending into chaos or despotism.
In post-liberation Syria, their responsibility is amplified, for building the new state requires sound legal minds and a modern human rights perspective that guarantees the protection of human beings, the preservation of freedoms, and the restoration of the rule of law above all.
Free Syrians,
We cannot turn a new page without addressing a file that continues to bleed in the conscience of this nation: the case of the Syrian detainees in Roumieh Prison in Lebanon.
Since the first national workshop held by the Syrian Future Movement in the heart of Damascus in February of this year (two months after the liberation), the movement has placed this issue at the forefront, working to raise it in international circles, contacting global human rights organizations, and demanding that the Syrian government give it the highest priority, as it is a humanitarian and justice issue that cannot be neglected or postponed.
Today, we extend our sincere greetings to these detainees and renew our pledge that their case will remain present in every national and international forum until their files are clarified and the injustice against them is completely rectified.
Brothers and sisters,
One of the greatest challenges of the current stage is restoring rights to their rightful owners and recovering what was stolen from people’s lives during the harsh years of the past.
Justice is not merely legislative texts, but a comprehensive system that begins with restoring rights and extends to redressing harm, whether material, social, or legal, thereby restoring trust between the citizen and the state and establishing a phase of genuine stability.
Our nation today faces a heavy legacy left behind by the defunct Assad regime! Tens of thousands of Syrians remain in limbo due to sentences issued against them, some in absentia, some fabricated, and some politically motivated and retaliatory.
All these sentences deprive people of travel, disrupt their ability to enter and leave Syria, complicate their legal status at airports and borders, and leave them hostage to unjust decisions made during a time of tyranny.
The Legal Office of the Syrian Future Movement affirms today that addressing these cases is an urgent national duty, as it is directly linked to people’s rights, their lives, and their social and economic future.
O Syrians,
Victory is incomplete without justice,
A state is built only on the rule of law, and
A person only feels their dignity when their rights are protected, their grievances are redressed, and the burdens of years of injustice are lifted from their shoulders.
With this spirit and this sense of responsibility, we continue our work at the Legal Office of the Syrian Future Movement, believing that justice is not a choice, but the destiny of a nation that wishes to live and endure.
Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you.
