World Science Day for Peace and Development

The Syrian Future Movement joins the international community in celebrating the World Science Day for Peace and Development, observed annually on November 10th, under the theme “Trust – Transformation – Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050.” The Movement affirms that the advancement of science is central to the national renaissance project in a new Syria, following decades of destruction, ignorance, and tyranny.

The Syrian Future Movement believes this day represents a national opportunity to renew the commitment to building a state founded on reason, science, and justice. It asserts that investing in scientific and technological knowledge is the surest path to establishing sustainable peace and achieving equitable development that guarantees the dignity of every Syrian citizen.

Science, in its essence, is the guardian of truth, a guarantor of active citizenship, and a tool for protecting society from a return to dependency and oppression.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the transitional phase Syria is currently undergoing necessitates a genuine shift towards national science policies that place research and education at the heart of the reconstruction process—not only in its material sense, but also in its human and ethical dimensions. Rebuilding schools and universities must be accompanied by the development of a new culture that respects critical thinking and free inquiry, and that connects science with national conscience and ethical responsibility.

In this context, the Syrian Future Movement calls on the transitional government and academic and civil institutions to:

  1. Launch the “National Strategy for Science for Peace and Development” as a comprehensive framework for directing scientific research toward the needs of Syrian society and rehabilitating the scientific and educational infrastructure.
  2. Establish the “National Council for Research and Innovation” to serve as a national reference point for science policies in the new Syria, comprising scientists and experts from within the country and abroad.
  3. Integrate the values of peace, justice, and citizenship into educational curricula to restore trust between knowledge and society, and between the state and its citizens.
  4. Strengthen international partnerships with scientific and academic organizations to exchange expertise and support educational institutions during the recovery and reconstruction phase.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that science in post-revolution Syria must be free from fear and censorship, directed toward serving humanity, and grounded in the values of citizenship and equality. Building a free nation is incomplete without building a free mind. The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the new Syria needs knowledge that restores confidence in the future, an education system that produces a generation unafraid of the truth, and a scientific policy that transforms the pain of the past into energy for creativity and progress. For it is only through knowledge that freedom is preserved, and through knowledge that peace is maintained. Development begins with humanity and returns to it.
