Teachers’ strike in Idlib and rural Aleppo

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest and a high sense of national responsibility the developments of the open-ended strike launched by teachers in the Idlib and Aleppo countryside governorates this morning, November 9, 2025.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this step reflects a profound national educational awareness, affirming that the path to building a state of justice and citizenship cannot be completed without enshrining the dignity of the teacher and guaranteeing their rights as the cornerstone in rebuilding the free Syrian individual.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the current strike is not merely a professional protest, but rather an extension of the spirit of the revolution that restored dignity to its true meaning, and that protecting the teacher and preserving their status is an integral part of the transitional justice project upon which the new Syrian state is founded.

The Syrian Future Movement announces its full and principled support for the demands of the Free Syrian Teachers Syndicate, which are:

  1. Permanent employment for all contract teachers.
  2. Reinstatement of those arbitrarily dismissed since 2011 with full compensation for the years of their dismissal.
  3. Raising salaries to a level befitting the dignity of the teacher and their role in rebuilding the nation. Activating a fair and equitable transfer system that upholds the principle of equal opportunity.
  4. The Syrian Future Movement reminds us that these teachers were the ones who carried the torch of awareness during the darkest years of oppression, refusing to teach their children falsehoods. They were among the first to establish a new national consciousness based on freedom, honesty, and responsibility. It is a national duty today to restore their dignity in post-revolution Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement also warns that any delay in addressing these demands will constitute a violation of the principle of social justice upon which the transitional phase is founded, and will undermine public trust in the new state institutions.

Accordingly, the Syrian Future Movement demands the following from the transitional government:

  1. Issuing a presidential decree within 48 hours to reinstate all teachers dismissed for political or revolutionary reasons, with full compensation for the years of arbitrary dismissal.
  2. Immediate and comprehensive regularization of all contract teachers in educational institutions in the liberated areas.
  3. Raising the minimum teacher’s salary to a level exceeding that of military personnel and linking it to the cost-of-living index.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for the establishment of a “Supreme National Council for Educational Dignity,” comprising representatives from the Teachers’ Syndicate, the Ministry of Education, and civil society organizations. Its mission would be to draft a national ethical and educational charter that redefines the teacher’s role in the new Syrian Republic.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that building the new Syria will only be achieved by establishing educational and social justice and restoring the school’s status as a space for cultivating freedom and citizenship.

In the transitional phase we are experiencing today, dignity cannot remain a political slogan without becoming a reality in the lives of teachers who shape the consciousness of generations.

The Syrian Future Movement also declares its full solidarity with the Dignity Strike and calls on all national and civil forces to stand united behind Syria’s teachers, because honoring teachers is the first step towards establishing the republic of justice and citizenship for which all Syrians have struggled.
