Statement from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor regarding the follow-up on the cases of children of detainees and missing persons in the prisons of the former regime.

The Syrian Future Movement is closely following the statement issued today by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor regarding the case of children detained and forcibly disappeared in the prisons of the former regime. The Movement also notes the Ministry’s apology for previous media statements and its commitment to refrain from issuing any future statements on this matter except through authorized official channels.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that protecting children and ensuring their psychological and physical well-being, as well as safeguarding the rights of their families, is a national and humanitarian imperative that brooks no delay or compromise. In this context, the Movement stresses the following points:

  1. The prohibition of impromptu media statements must be accompanied by the acceleration of field and legal procedures to determine the fate of every child and every missing person, without any delay.
  2. A high-level, independent, and transparent national committee must be formed, comprising representatives from the state, associations of families of detainees and missing persons, credible Syrian human rights organizations, and international observers, to monitor the case in all its details.
  3. Anyone possessing information, documents, or archives related to detainees—whether in official or unofficial institutions—must immediately hand them over to the committee, with a guarantee that no evidence will be destroyed or concealed.
  4. Permanent, documented reports, accessible to families, must be issued detailing the number of cases uncovered, the actions taken, and the remaining obstacles, as institutional transparency is the fundamental guarantee for building trust.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this issue is not merely a humanitarian one, but a moral and political test of the approach of the modern state and legal institutions in Syria. Every day of delay in revealing the truth constitutes a violation of the rights of children and their families.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the relevant authorities to move beyond mere media apologies and take concrete, practical steps in the coming weeks, focusing on reuniting children with their families and fully uncovering the truth, considering this a paramount national priority.
