Report of the National Commission of Inquiry into the events in Suwaida

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest and national concern the report issued by the National Investigation Committee into the events in Suwaida, published in several national media outlets on November 10, 2025. The report announced the arrest of members of the Ministries of Defense and Interior on charges of proven violations, and their referral to the competent judiciary, after collecting more than 800 field testimonies and documenting evidence from the sites of the events. The committee also denied the presence of foreign fighters or any systematic hate speech in the governorate.

While the Syrian Future Movement affirms that this step falls within the national framework for building trust and establishing justice, it notes that its position today is a continuation of the stance it expressed in its previous statement issued on August 27, 2025, entitled “The Investigation Committee into the Events in Suwaida,” in which the movement stressed the necessity of revealing the full facts and ensuring that the investigation is not politicized or influenced in its professional course.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the report represents tangible progress towards establishing transparency and accountability within state institutions, reflecting an official recognition that the rule of law is the cornerstone of building the new Syrian state.

The Syrian Future Movement also commends the committee’s courage in documenting violations and holding those involved accountable, regardless of their positions, considering this a necessary step towards restoring citizens’ trust in their national institutions.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the need to complete the investigation more comprehensively and independently, including access to all relevant sites and archives, ensuring the cooperation of all administrative, security, and judicial bodies without exception, and utilizing independent international expertise to enhance its professionalism and credibility.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the committee’s denial of the existence of organized hate speech is a positive step, but it is insufficient on its own to address the impact of the events on the social fabric.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the current stage requires strengthening national dialogue among the various groups and components in Suwaida, preventing the political or media exploitation of any isolated incident. This will protect society against attempts to sow discord or undermine national unity. The Movement reiterates its call for adopting inclusive approaches to dealing with crises, prioritizing social and economic solutions, and providing early warning mechanisms to prevent the recurrence or escalation of such events.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that these painful events can be transformed into a national opportunity to rebuild trust between the state and society through:

  • Launching sustainable reconstruction and economic development programs in Suwaida Governorate that address marginalization and revitalize its local economy.
  • Supporting civic education initiatives that instill values of justice, tolerance, and respect for the law among young people.
  • Developing a transitional justice system at the national level to guarantee the people of Suwaida and all Syrians their right to truth and justice.
  • Strengthening the role of elected local councils in participating in shaping local policies, within a Syrian vision based on gradual national decentralization that reflects the will of the citizens and preserves the unity of the country.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms its unwavering commitment to actively contributing to building a unified, secure, just, and democratic Syria, based on national reconciliation and the rule of law. It calls upon all national and societal forces to view recent events as a turning point for joint action toward a future that consolidates civil peace and prevents the exploitation of these events to serve narrow agendas or those that are contrary to the supreme national interest.
